Moline, IL. Two clerks in garden center demand to know what I'm doing.  They insist I must talk with the manager before building in the aisle.  Manager says he won't stop me from setting up blocks outside to see if they're what I want for my project.  "Lots of our customers do that!"  he said, smiling.
Birmingham, AL. Home Depot staff invited me down to build a piece. They arranged for Fox TV to film the build, and used the footage for an interview I did the next day. Had dinner with one staff person. Mistletoe was growing on her trees.  Enjoyed her Southern hospitality.

Elyria, Ohio. Its Sunday at Lowes and a lot of people were out shopping.
A couple looking at pavers asks "What are you making?"  After I explain they respond, "All that work just for a photograph?  Good Luck!"  Their daughter says "You can't take a picture of me!"
A chunky little boy, runs up and puts his hand on the sculpture. His mom says, "Don't Touch!" I start to explain, he runs down the aisle.

Baltimore, MD. This piece was done during NPR interview.  Rainy day, busy store, very good interview!
Ardmore, OK. Leah the writer and Don the photographer met up with me in the gardening center.  Friendly welcome. Don turned me on to Turner Falls in Davis where I snapped shots of rocks.  A boy told his Mom I was FBI here to find out who wrote the graffiti.  OK is beautiful.
Dallas, TX. Last day on this trip.  Out early, store empty.
El Dorado, AR. "Oh, you're buying.  I thought you were one of the employees, the way you're handling that stuff."  Folks were friendly but the heat made me sick.
Philadelphia, PA. Cold dry winter day.  Two women restocking pavers, one on forklift machine, the second on her feet directing the other smiles and asks me to stay out of the way.
